BAHIA SOLANO FISHING BONANZA: Bahia Solano it’s a small city in the west pacific coast of Colombia, only reachable by air (short flight 30-45 min depending on the aircraft from Medellin-Bahia Solano) and has became one of the best inshore – off Shore Ocean fishing destinations in the world.
It’s one of the last places in the planet where pristine tropical rainforest meets the ocean; beaches are calm, lonely, where crystal clear rivers flow down the mountains through the forest and empty in the sea.
It’s a place where whales come to have their offspring, dolphins play happily and sea turtles find their nesting areas in the sand and calm shores.
A perfect isolated destination for nature lovers and fishermen, here the deep forests, clear rivers, mangroves, and beaches still live together in harmony, all this reasons make Bahia Solano one of the best places to go fishing in the world.
The type of fishing is completely sustainable, responsible and follows catch and release philosophy.
Location: Colombia, City of Bahía Solano, Department (province) of Chocó.
Population: 9000 inhabitants

25 Degrees ºC average / 77 ºF
Summer (January – September) 30 ºC / 86 ºF
Winter (October-December) 22 ºC / 71 ºF.
Rain 4900 millimeters a year.
All year round, but it depends on the types of fish you want to catch, and the weather you want to avoid.
For most species including big yellow fin tuna, sail fish, snappers, roosterfish, wahoo, sierra, needlefish etc.
Time-wise we recommend Feb-March-April-May because those are the months when sardines come inshore.
Anyway the season stretches until the beginning of October.
But If you want to feel the fight of a Tarpon, a roosterfish both inshore, or a black marlin, mahi-mahi offshore.
We recommend the rainy season the months of October, November and December.
This months are when the open ocean is calmer and the bigger fish come closer because of currents and food supply. The only problem of this time of the year is, the heavy rains and the ocean gets a bit rough inshore.
Some of the highlights of Bahia Solano are the hunchback whales, which can be seen from July to mid October.
And in most of the tours we have a chance to see playful dolphins.
Types of fishing possible:
Trolling, jigging, popping. (casting in general)
Fly-fishing is possible if requested in advanced.
For trolling we recommend a 80w reel and a line of 50-80lbs, rapalas of sizes 12-16, and a 80lbs leader.
For casting a 45-60 lbs line.
